GARY T. ERBE

  BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

GARY T. ERBE is a self-taught painter of great vision. Unwilling to follow in the footsteps of the classical realists, he coined the phrase "Levitational Realism" in 1969 to describe his own approach to the time-honored art of trompe l'oeil. He has exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and his works were part of an exhibition entitled "American Art on the Brink of the 21st Century," which traveled throughout the Far East for two years. His many awards include the Audubon Artists Gold Medal, The Butler Institute of American Art National Mid-Year First Place Award, The National Arts Club First Prize and the Allied Artists of America Gold Medal, which he has won three times. He is a member of many organizations and societies including The National Arts Club, the Salmagundi Club, and Allied Artists of America, of which he has been President since 1994.
