Michael Gallarda-(b.1953) American, an artist of Spanish heritage, has been creating masterful still life and trompe l'oeil paintings for the past 15 years. He has assembled a body of work steeped in that rare and time-honored genre, yet still possessing a thoroughly modern aesthetic. Using precise brushwork and a slow build-up of transparent and opaque glazes, he creates images that indeed "fool the eye" in their convincing representations.
