JOHN MORRA

   
John Morra – (b. 1962) American, received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, and then studied at the New York Academy of Figurative Art, where he earned his MFA. He has since taught in numerous art schools in New York City and Seattle. He was a member of a group of realist painters known as The Paint Group, six immensely talented artists who came together to challenge and critique one another's work. He is best known for creating an on-going group of still-life as landscape paintings, which are entitled the "Mertz Series." By taking the traditional still life and revitalizing it, he has made it relevant to today's world. His works have exhibited throughout the United States and abroad. Several of the prestigious venues to house his paintings have been the Katonah Museum of Art, the Arnot Art Museum and the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art.
