Thomas Van Stein-(b. 1961) American, received his undergraduate and Masters Degree from California State University, as well as studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Mr. Van Stein is a master of plein air nocturnal landscape painting. Traveling extensively, he explores each new location in the middle of the night, be it a major tourist attraction, deserted alleyway or bucolic pasture. Nearly all of his works are painted alla prima (in one sitting) in order to capture the full mystery and immediacy of the night-lights, whether they emanate from the stars or from a distant town. Mr. Van Stein is the recipient of numerous awards, and has been featured in such publications as Southwest Art Magazine, The Artist's Magazine and Passport Magazine.
