GLENN HARRINGTON
  FOREWORD

Populated by expressive figures that exude a natural elegance, Glenn Harrington's paintings are a melange of experienced realities and inventive musings. The suggestive narratives he creates are inspired as much by events in his own life and travels, as by the rich depths of his imagination. Harrington does not require that his work be strictly anchored in contemporary life or, for that matter, in the here and now. Rather, the artist's reality often flows from the present into the past and back again. His figures are frequently adorned with elements that suggest distance of both time and place. In this way he broadens the context for the viewer, and never committing to a finite world, he allows us to go on a creative journey with him.

There is a distinct harmony that Glenn Harrington infuses in every aspect his work. In palette, composition and brushwork he constructs a natural easy balance. His paintings are without angst or tension, nevertheless they possess a dramatic impact and striking presence. While the people he paints are often depicted singly, they are never alone. His subjects, frequently adrift in their reveries, are comfortably enveloped in the essence of the world around them.

Mr. Harrington attended Pratt Institute in New York and upon graduation in 1981, he began his career in illustration and painting. He has received numerous awards and commendations from the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, The Art Director's Club and the Society of Publication Designers, as well as the Portrait Society of America. His original paintings have appeared in museums and galleries nationwide including the Museum of American Illustration in New York, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Massachusetts, the USGA Museum in New Jersey, the Jack Nicklaus Museum in Ohio, the Gibbes Art Museum in South Carolina and the Art Institutes in Houston, Dallas and Miami. An exhibition of his paintings traveled to Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. Glenn Harrington shares the idyllic setting of his Bucks County, Pennsylvania home with his wife and two sons.
