| THE FIGURE IN AMERICAN ART |

FOREWORD When the Eleanor Ettinger Gallery began the annual Figure in American Art exhibition almost a decade ago, representational work was experiencing the beginnings of a resurgence in the United States. For the past thirty years, we however have been solely dedicated to the genre of realism with an emphasis on draftsmanship and an aesthetic of beauty. These accomplishments are both particularly challenging and distinctly apparent when handled masterfully in paintings centered on the human figure. We have been heartened by our collector's enduring appreciation of the artistic and technical merits exemplified in the work of the painters we represent. It has been a long journey to see critics, educators and other members of the art world recognize anew the importance of realism. We are excited about the future and are particularly proud to celebrate this year's collection of the Figure in American Art. |
